Red T-Shirt Day

On Wednesday 30 September, the children wore red t-shirts, instead of the usual uniform following an invitation from a parent in Scoil Mhuire, Howth to participate in an initiative called ‘#redTshirt day.

The idea was to encourage our children to show solidarity with the displaced children of Syria, who have fled their homes in the worsening refugee crisis.  Their plight was highlighted to us all by the shocking and upsetting image of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi, the little boy in the red t-shirt whose photograph was shown around the world.

No monies were collected through the school but donations were given by texting GOAL4 to 50300 to donate €4 to Goal Global, or by visiting to donate a different amount.

In class on the day all children involved coloured a paper t-shirt in red and signed it with their first name so that we were able to create a school collage.
